Connecting the Great Barrier Reef Directly to Researchers

Embarking on an ambitious decade-long project, our mission is to forge a connection between scientists and the Great Barrier Reef. This will be accomplished through a network of underwater robotic hubs spanning from the reef’s lagoon to depths of one thousand meters.

By linking their experiments to an underwater hub, scientists can remotely conduct observations and gather data in real time, enabling them to delve deeper into the mysteries of the Great Barrier Reef and the continental shelf. This approach, which marries cost-effectiveness and cutting-edge technology, revolutionizes how marine studies are conducted, presenting a new avenue for comprehensive and real-time scientific exploration.

Our project draws inspiration from a successful endeavour currently managed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in the United States, known as the Monterey Accelerated Research System.
